The island of Korcula is located in the Adriatic Sea and is one of the most popular island holiday destinations in Croatia
You may not be aware of it but Croatia has about 400 islands scattered all around its coastline. What better way to explore this country than to start hopping from one island to the other? With this itinerary in mind, you are in for a very adventurous holiday!
One good thing about island hopping in Croatia is the fact that you have geography on your side. That is, you do not have to spend such a long time getting from one island to the next. Even better, most of the major ports are located near airports as well. Also, ferries run daily between most islands, making crossings an easy task. Some of the main operators in the area are Jadrolinija (online pre-booking possible), GV Line, and Kapetan Luka.
So where should you start? It really depends on what you want. If you’re looking for something family friendly, then I suggest starting with the northerly Kvarner islands. Hop from Krk to Rab to Pag. Krk is the biggest and most developed of the islands. Rab offers lush greenery. Pag is perfect for partying (for your teenagers).
If romance is what you are after, then head on over to the Split archipelago. Hop from Hvar to Vis to Brac. Hvar has been dubbed the Cannes of Croatia, but is definitely more virginal. Vis used to be a military base and now boasts of excellent seafood and wine. Brac is home to the most photographed beach in the country: Zlatni Rat.
For the nature lover, the islands to visit are Sipan, Mljet, and Korcula. Sipan has strong medieval roots and boasts of its famous wine. Mljet has a national park and two dazzling alkes. Korcula has beaches, pine forests, and vineyards.
