Scandinavia: Saving Money When Traveling in Scandinavia

in Country Guides

Traveling to Scandinavia can very well be one of the most adventurous things that you do in your lifetime. More than that, you can also have one of the most culturally rich vacations available to mankind. Naturally, you have to watch your budget, just as you would in any other trips. How can you save money when traveling in Scandinavia?

Look for the free activities
There are so many things that you can do in Scandinavia that will not cost you a single cent. This part of the world is known for many natural formations and phenomena that you can go there and not have to pay entrance fees and the like. Look these things up and make it a point to visit these places and engage in the activities there. To name a few, you can experience the Northern Lights, the Midnight Sun, and the Polar Nights. Just make sure you bring your camera along.

Look for City Cards
Scandinavian countries are known for their City Cards, which allow visitors to frequent museums and other similar venues for free. You can even take public transportation for free and get other travel-related discount coupons. You can find these cards online and purchase them for a good price.

Look for budget hotels
You might love your comforts and might be willing to pay for it but in Scandinavia, you do not have to pay an arm and a leg for a comfortable stay at a budget hotel or a backpacker hostel. For families or large groups, you can even find hostels which will allow you to prepare your own meals, saving you even more money.

Here’s to a good Scandinavian vacation on the cheap!

My tip: Alcohol is taxed heavily in Scandinavia especially in Norway. Avoiding drinking while on vacation is strongly recommended. Save your liver and your money at the same time!
