La Concha Beach, San Sebastian, Spain

Spain boasts of some of the most fun beaches in the world, not the least of which is what San Sebastian has to offer. San Sebastian is also known as Donostia, and is located in Basque Country. It offers the best of both worlds; one the one hand, you have some nice beaches. On the other hand, you have historical buildings.

One of the best things about San Sebastian is its climate. It has one of the mildest winters in the area and some of the best summers ever. Naturally, one of the main reasons to visit San Sebastian in the summer is the beach. There are two main beaches in the area. They are La Concha and La Zurriola.

La Concha is located in the western part of San Sebastian and is the larger of the two beaches. It is perfect for swimming and relaxation as it is protected from the crashing waves of the sea. There are lifeguards on duty all throughout the day and visitors can rent umbrellas, lounge chairs, and tents for a reasonable price.

La Zurriola, on the other hand, is located in the eastern part. It is the beach where most surfers are since the waves are perfect for this kind of activity. Other beach sports are also the rave in La Zurriola.

Aside from the beach, visitors can also go hiking in San Sebastian. In between the beaches, there is a mountain where the statue of Christ is to be found. This is a popular tourist attraction as well. If you do not feel like going up the mountain, taking a stroll in the town center is adventure enough, with the host of historical buildings to be visited. Of course, we cannot forget the numerous pintxos, or bars where you can eat tapas.

Try and make sure that you are staying in San Sebastian when the fireworks festival or the international fireworks competition is on. The whole week when the festival is being held is called Semana Grande (Aste Nagusia) or Great Week. There are many things to see and do including festivals, bullfighting, theatre and street parades. This is the best time to visit San Sebastian.

I’m searching all over to find out where and how to rent the umbrellas and beach chairs. Can anyone advise? We’d like to pre-book them
Thank you

Beach umbrellas and chairs are usually hired on a daily basis. Just find a spot on the beach where you want to spend the day and pay for the daily hire. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to pre-book a chair or umbrella. Have fun in Spain!
