A Street Performance in Budapest, Hungary

A Street Performance in Budapest, Hungary

Budapest has been called one of the most beautiful cities in the world by many a traveler, and no wonder – the capital of Hungary is an elegant mixture of old world charm, natural beauty, modern nightlife, and more. Each year, Budapest welcomes about 20 million tourists into its fold, attracting more and more lifelong enthusiasts along the way.

The city is actually comprised of two separate cities – Buda and Pest. These two cities are separated by the Danube River; the former is found on the West Bank while the latter on the East Bank.

Getting to Budapest is as easy as pie. The major airport, Budapest (Ferihegy) International Airport, can be found around 16 kilometres from the center of the city. Major airlines fly to this airport, as well as some budget airlines. You can also travel to the city by rail, as it is connected to a lot of other European cities.

What awaits you in Budapest?

The majority of the city’s most famous attractions can be found in Buda, specifically on Castle Hill. You should not miss the Royal Palace, the National Gallery, the Fisherman’s Bastion, and the Matthias Church. If your craving for museums is not satisfied easily, then check out these other museums in the same area: the Historical Museum of Budapest, the Music Museum, the Military Museum, and the Museum of Medieval Judaism.

On the Pest side, you can feast your eyes on more amazing architecture. Visit the Parliament Building, St. Stephen Cathedral (this is the main church of the whole city), the Great Synagogue and the Jewish Museum (you can’t miss this – it’s the biggest synagogue in all of Europe!). There are also more museums in this side of the city.

If you feel like relaxing, you can go on a boat ride on the Danube for an unforgettable experience. You can also visit Margaret Island, which is home to immense parks. Then there are the baths and the spas. At night, you can go to one of the numerous theatres or operas or a disco before getting some rest so you can enjoy a brand new day’s worth of adventure is this wonderful city.
