The Nyhavn Canal in Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and is known for its hip and trendy culture. More than being hip and trendy, however, this city also offers a varied cultural experience that will leave any visitor wanting for more. Here are my top five things to do in Copenhagen.
Roam the Stroget
The Stroget is the longest shopping street in the whole city. It is a pedestrian only street and you can walk and shop to your heart’s content as long as you want! Shops in the Stroget are as varied as can be, ranging from dirt cheap prices to crazy expensive tags. There are also lots of cafés and bars where you can sit back and relax as you down some Danish beer.
Experience royalty at the Amalienborg Palace
Since the late 18th century, this palace has been home to the country’s Royal Family. The palace is unique in that it is composed of four houses, all of which open up to a central square. Certain parts of the palace are open to the public. You should also see the changing of the guard every day at midday.
Dansk Design Center
Their goal is to become the design center of Europe and for those who are into this kind of thing, a visit to Copenhagen will not be complete without a visit to the design center. There are countless displays and exhibits showcasing modern Danish design from furniture to other decorative arts.
Say hello to the Little Mermaid
You may not know it but the Little Mermaid is the country’s national symbol. Near the Langelinie Wharf, you can visit her sitting on a rock.
Enjoy Bakken
This is an amusement park about 10 miles north of Copenhagen. I suggest going there to have a taste of what the locals like to do in their spare time.

When I visited Copenhagen I made use of the free hire bicycles and rode around the whole city. I can highly recommend taking advantage of the free service as you will get to see a lot of the city for free
