Interlaken is a must see destination on any visit to Switzerland

Chocolates, the Alps, cheeses, lakes, secret bank accounts… these are only some of the things that come to mind when Switzerland is mentioned. There is no doubt, however, that Switzerland is one of the best places that you can visit in Europe. The country is not that big, compared to other European countries, but it certainly has a lot of things to offer any visitor. If you’re planning on visiting Switzerland in the future, here are the three areas that you should not miss.

Bern
Also spelled Berne, this city is the capital of Switzerland. Aside from this distinction, Bern is known for some of the most interesting things. One, it is where the great scientist Albert Einstein worked. Two, it is where Toblerone (chocolate lovers rejoice!) is made. Three, it is the home of Ementhal (Swiss cheese in other words). Of course, it has other attractions such as historical buildings, shops (lots and lots), and the River Aare, around which the city is located.

Interlaken
For some breathtaking landscapes and the most idyllic vacation, Interlaken should be at the top of your list. This small town is surrounded by crystal clear lakes and majestic mountain ranges. You will not lack for amenities here as there are a lot of hotels, shops, and everything else that a traveler can wish for. Oh, and this is the place to be for Swiss watch shopping!

 Zurich
Perhaps the most popular city in the country, Zurich is often thought to be the capital. In fact, it is the commercial, financial, and business capital. This fact makes it perfect for shopping but it also is home to some of the most wondrous architectural works. If you have an affinity for water fountains, you can bask in the 1030 fountains in the city. More so, you can visit the nearby Alps for some mountain adventure.

I traveled through Switzerland last year and absolutely loved it. I can recommend spending plenty of time in Interlaken – it is so lovely and also great for adventure activities. Zurich is a nice city, but there really isn’t a great deal to do there.

Make sure that when you are in Interlaken that you take a trip on the Jungfrau train to Jungfraujoch. This is the highest point in Europe and well worth the cost of the ticket.
