A busker performing on La Rambla, Barcelona
Two days in the Spanish city of Barcelona is enough to give you a mere taste of what it has to offer. To make the most out of your two days in Barcelona, make sure to get an early start. Even if you don’t consider yourself an early bird, you won’t regret making an exception for these two days.
On the first day, start out at Placa Cataluna. This is the center of culture of the city. From fountains to sculptures to shops to cafes – you are in for a treat. As the day goes by, the square becomes even busier and more fun. Unfortunately, you cannot stay here all day if you want to see the rest of the city. Another place to visit is La Rambla (or Les Ramblas). It is a district that’s a mile long and is full of various entertainment options: jugglers, singers, human statues, caged animals – name it, you’ll find them here.
Next stop, Placa Reial, one of the oldest squares in the city. Just be sure to keep a close watch on your belongings and pockets. Other places to visit: Barri Gotic, Catedral, Montjuc, Sagrada Familia, and Parc Guell.
After a nice dinner at one of the many restaurants in the city, get some rest and get ready for day two.
I suggest having a relaxing start at the Parc de la Ciutadella. An early stroll among the gardens is an excellent way to start day two. Visit Museu Picasso next, the most popular art museum in the city. Santa María del Mar Church is another must visit. A plus: it’s not as crowded as other tourist spots.
For a taste of the beach and the marina, head on over to La Barceloneta and Port Olímpic. There are a lot of places to get a bite (yes, paella!) in the area as well. Other stops on day two: Marina Port Vell, Museu Maritim, and El Raval. Oh, and don’t forget frequent stops at bars and cafes for some tapas.
